It shows that importance of preparing food in a sanitary environment: you never know what was on the table before you got there.

Some people use sponges and soap to clean their kitchen and bathroom counters.  They may appear to be  "cleaning" the area, but the aren't actually killing many of the microorganisms that can make you sick.  Aside from harsh, dangerous chemicals, there aren't many ways to sterilize a surface....
