Our Robot - The HRD Our household robot will be an autonomous robot capable of vacuuming the floor, filtering the air, brooming, and mopping. It will use advanced ionization technology to attract dust and dirt to reusable metal "filters." Containing a ultraviolet light system, it will also kill bacteria and mold in the air. The front will contain hollow plastic bristles that not only function for brooming, but also for dispensing water for mopping. The back of the robot will have an absorbent cloth. A map will be generated showing where the robot has already cleaned using infrared sensors, sonar, and back EMF motor monitoring. The robot will occasionally need to charge the battery or clean the filters. The robot will have a charging station at various points in the house, it will know where these are at all times and will charge itself when it feels the need. The HRD will also have the capability to communicate and cooperate with other HRDs that may be in the house, sharing information, maps and other data. The HRDs can communicate with each other via RF.
One of the main problems with the Roomba robot is its inability to reach
corners. The HRD will have an extensible tube that can reach into corners
and other hard to reach areas. The filters will be auto cleaned at the
charging stations while charging. The robot could be built from already manufactured parts, making manufacturing cheaper. The estimated cost will be 300 dollars pre-production.
