The Future

The success of AIME is important for future advancements in space exploration.  The discovery of water ice and abundant silicon on the moon could lead to the building of a solar power moon base that could solve Earth’s energy problems.  A base located on Malapert Mountain would have almost continuous sunlight and would always have a direct line of communication relay with Earth.  Here, solar arrays could be made out of silicon mined from the moon so heavy panels would not have to be shipped.  There is room to build enough arrays to power a moon base and to beam power to space satellites.  Any extra power could be beamed to Earth, providing a clean source of energy.  Water is too heavy to take into space in large quantities but if it could be found on the moon, it could support life.  Water ice also has oxygen which is vital to life and for making fuel, and hydrogen which can also be used as fuel.  This could lead to the moon some day becoming a refueling station.[3,5,22]  What a great idea to AIM(E) for!
