Information about Botball |
:\\What is Botball? Botball is an interactive sport that involves minds, wits, and a whole lot of work. Botball (not to be confused with its destructive counterpart "Battle bots") takes strategy to get
cups, stack cups, and to shoot balls into baskets. Sounds simple enough, but it becomes complicated when the robots on the other side of the arena
are scoring the same goal, against you
:\\What's the object of the sport? The object of the game is to get all the
yellow cups onto your side, move blue cups onto the other side, and to try to
shoot orange balls into baskets.
:\\Rules of The Game
These rules are simplified of the rules set by the Botball Officials.
- In order to score points, you have to have
- Yellow cups on your side
- Stacked Yellow Cups
- Orange Balls in Baskets
- If the team's robot just stays in the
starting box's boundary (is not breaking) can never score any points.
- If the robot's motor and power isn't off by
the end of the round the team cannot win over a team that does, unless in a
case of rule number 2.
:\\What does the court layout look like? The
court layout simply looks like this.
The black lines are where the cups are placed
on.
:\\How are ties and elimination rounds like?
- Tie of Teams with Scores more then 0
Points
- Team with more specially marked cups.
- Team with fewest Blue Cups
- Team with more Yellow Cups
- Team with a robot with a power switch closets to the speed bump.
- Tie of Teams with Scores of 0-0
- Team with a smaller amount of blue scoring stack cups.
- Team with more specially marked cups.
- Team that has a robot with the power switch closets to the speed bump.
- Seeding/ Performances Rounds
These rounds take place before each Elimination round. These rounds consist of
the best 2 out 3 rounds. All of the teams play on the black side.
In Seeding, the score for the side is the height of the yellow stacked cups
minus the height of the blue stacked cups. Scoring is (black score)- (white
score). When you choose to take your option of passing on a round is -1 for
that certain round you passed. The seed score is the average of the best
two rounds. A perfect seed score is
• 92 pts for 46 Yellow cups all
stacked on your side
+ 44 pts for 44 Blue cups on opposing side
+ 40 pts for 4 orange balls in goals on your side
-
Double Elimination Rounds
- When a team loses 2 rounds, its out of the tournament.
- Initial matches are decided by seeding round
using an "equitable draw"
- Matches are arranged using KIPR tournament
software
- Judges' decisions are final
:\\How big is the Board?
Here is a picture of the board's dimensions.
:\\What is the point of the cups, stacked cups
and what is the "basket"
The object of the cups is for the robot to push them over to your side. However,
not all the cups are perfect. The Yellow cups are best for you to have on your
side because they give you a point. However, the blue cups give a negative
points. In order for you to regain the points, the cups that are on your side by
the end of the round. The basket is the pipes on each of the 4 corners on the
board. The object of the basket is for you to shoot the orange balls into it.
:\\What is the point system?
Yellow Cups= +1 Point
Stacked Yellow Cups= + Extra Points
Orange Balls in Baskets= +10 Points
Blue Cups= -1 Point
:\\How do you get the robot to do whatever? You have to program the robot with a special code called C programming.
