The design our team came up with through our research is similar to one from the past.  Like NASA the Soviet Union was also exploring space during the Apollo era.  While the US was working on a manned mission to the Moon the Soviets were working on rover missions.  They twice successfully landed rovers, Lunokhod 1 and Lunokhod 2 that did many of the tasks that are required in this challenge and more.  They were delivered through a Luna 17 and Luna 21, two Lunar Landers.

Our focus was on Luna 21 and Lunokhod 2.  Our design will incorporate what was proven to work with the Luna 21 and Lunokhod 2 combined with the latest technologies available in today’s modern space exploration.
