A large problem plaguing the agricultural industry and the environment is the misuse of soil and erosion. Along with educating farmers about techniques such as crop rotation and farm setups which prevent erosion, we need to make farmers use “green” technologies. At the rate we are going, it will not be long before we run out of arable, quality soil to farm with. However, instead of giving farmers the tedious task of managing records and numbers of their fields, we can use agrobots to maintain their fields flawlessly. This implementation of autonomous technology can completely eliminate one of our major agriculture issues; however there is more which can be done.
Agrobots can be used to curb or eliminate the use of pesticides, fertilizers, and unnecessary chemicals. Pesticides: Ever since the first implementation and use of pesticides on farms, we have been plagued with the amount of pollution they have created. Opposed to having farmers spray pesticides as they deem necessary, agrobots will be able to determine exactly how much pesticide needs to be sprayed on a given field. Data collected for determining whether pesticide is required or not include presence of insects in the vicinity of the field, effect of pesticide in accordance with the plant, and current level of pesticides.
Herbicides: The overuse of herbicides on farms has not only ruined much of the available topsoil, but has also killed many crops as well as weeds. Agrobots can apply herbicide directly to affected root systems instead of a farmer applying herbicide over an entire area. Agrobots can scan the fields and search for any developing weed systems to kill before they get out of hand.
Fertilizers: The use of natural fertilizers such as animal manure have proven to promote healthy topsoil, however harmful synthetic fertilizers have become a staple on farms all around the world. Instead having to spread fertilizers which will place nutrients in the topsoil, an efficient crop rotation system will curb or eliminate the use of said fertilizers. Crop rotation will allow for nutrients in the topsoil to be replenished and avoid exhaustion. The agrobots will be programmed to maintain the fields and monitor the level of nutrients in the ground.
Emissions, Pollutants, and other Harmful mutagens: With the aid of new age energy saving technologies, agrobots will greatly reduce the use of inefficient fossil fuels and hazardous emissions. The agrobots will run on a solar powered battery to run the electrical systems and the motor while the larger, heavy duty bots will run on small Blue Tec diesel engines. The battery operated bots will have no emissions while the innovative Blue Tec engines will have the cleanest emissions of any vehicle on the market. Carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles are one of the biggest contributors to the depletion of the ozone layer. Farm tractors are notorious for they high fuel consumption and absurd amounts of pollution. The agrobots will provide an avenue for in which we can slowly better the wellbeing of the biosphere.
