The Clementine mission was to map out the moon and examine its composition with sattelites equiped with its various sensors. During the mission the Clementine satellite’s Charged Particle Telescope (CTP) detected minute amounts of water on the moon. Water is suspected to exist in the shadowy regions of the moon, brought there by comets that have collided into the moon in the past.
The Aitken basin has been deemed a probable location for water for it’s many craters that shelter the water from sunlight preventing the solid water from melting and evaporating away. Our mission is to send robots to the Aitken basin on the farside of the moon in search of frozen water hidden in the crevices of the moon.
