Poem Types

Haiku- Three unrhyming lines with syllables of 5, 7, and 5.
Double-Dactyl- Fourty-four syllables arranged into four lines of dactyls.
Acrostic- The first letter of each line spells a word.
Abecedarius- The first letter of each line begins with the letters of the alphabet in regualar order.
Limerick- Five lines with a-a-b-b-a rhyming, and syllables of 9,9,6,6, and 9. The lines are made up of unstress-unstress-stress feet.
Prose- Ordinary writing, no structure.
Odes- Often formal poetry expressing praise.
Clerihew- Four lines with rhyme scheme a-b-a-b.
Epitaph- Brief poem found on a tombstone expressing the life and/or death of a person.
Didactic- A poem explaining or teaching how to do something.
